Nickelback Here And Now – Review

Nickelback’s always had a relate-able kind of anguish. Their 2002 hit, “How You Remind Me” had all the grinding smoldering bitterness and hookability a rock torch song should. Lead singer Chad Kroeger’s ragged brashness has an appeal that’s endured. They sound like your friend’s band with all the appealing I’ve-been-there-and-I’m-here-for-you accessibility without the stoner pretension indie is sometimes guilty of. Here And Now (Roadrunner Records) is a good old-fashioned ear-plowing rock record.

Debauchery of the alcoholic kind reigns on the hard-drinking anthem “Bottoms Up.” A relentless hard-riffer, it’s just the kind of throwback sound you want to see take front and center going forward. “Here and Now” focuses on clandestine erotic delights where source of the delights in question is observed to be “Hotter than a barrel on a squeezed machine gun.” Ok, maybe the sensory imagery is a little overdone, but who doesn’t want to be perceived as that hot at times?

The hard rockers are solid, but there are a few missteps here. “Trying Not To Love You” never quite makes it out of the gate. Something about it doesn’t blend–you can hear a countryish inflection butting cow heads with the electric guitar.“Lullaby” although benevolently intentioned as a song to comfort the hurting and depressed, is a nice idea that just doesn’t work and is audible filler.

Nickelback is flash rock and they’re in their element when making passionate and in this case very lusty music that comes at you in short, sharp bursts. “Midnight Queen” and “Gotta Get Me Some” reveal this ability in all its splendor.

It’s just sexy romance- rawmance, if you will. It’s got nice dirty blues lyrics sped up on tempo steroids and really, where would a rock album be without at least a little joyfully unrestrained sexual infatuation? Rocking hard enough to make their excitement yours, the sexy tracks on Here And Now are exciting odes to all the pleaures that inspire rock music.

But they need to lay off the reaching out and sappy puppy-love themes of “Trying Not To Love You” and “Lullaby” so as not to drain their mojo.

Mike Kroeger is a bassist and backing vocalist of the band Nickelback. Mike Kroeger is the half brother of Lead vocalist and Lead guitarist Chad Kroeger. Mike Kroger and Chad Kroeger had a cousin in the band named Brandon Kroeger who played the drums from 1995-1997

Bottoms Up (Official Lyric Video)

Bottoms Up Lyric

Produced by Nickelback & Joey Moi
Album Here And Now

[Verse 1]

Hey
Who's coming with me, to kick a hole in the sky?
I love the whiskey, let's drink that shit till it's dry
So grab a Jim Beam, JD, whatever you need
Have a shot from the bottle, doesn't matter to me
Another round, fill her up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up

[Chorus]

This is what it's all about, no one can slow us down
We ain't gonna stop until the clock runs out (Bottoms up)
Hell can't handle all of us, so get your bottles up
Drinking every drop until it all runs out
Another round, fill her up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up
Ooh, bottoms up

[Verse 2]

So grab your best friends and make your way to the bar
But keep your distance, we're gonna light it on fire
We're drinking black tooth, 80 proof, straight gasoline
Slam as much as you can take and hand the bottle to me
Another round, fill her up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up

[Bridge]

This is what it's all about, no one can slow us down
We ain't gonna stop until they throw us all out
Hell can't handle all of us, so get your bottles up
Drinking every drop until it all runs out

[Chorus]

This is what it's all about, no one can slow us down
We ain't gonna stop until the clock runs out (Bottoms up)
Hell can't handle all of us, so get your bottles up
Drinking every drop until it all runs out
Another round, fill her up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up

[Outro]

Another round, fill her up, hammer down, grab a cup, bottoms up
Hey, bottoms up

How You Remind Me

How You Remind Me Lyric

Produced by Rick Parashar
Album Silver Side Up

[Verse 1]

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me

[Pre-Chorus]

This is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am

[Chorus]

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream "Are we having fun yet?"

[Post-Chorus]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no

[Verse 2]

It's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
'Cause living with me must have damn near killed you

[Pre-Chorus]

And this is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am

[Chorus]

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream "Are we having fun yet?"

[Post-Chorus]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no

[Bridge]

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me

[Pre-Chorus]

This is how you remind me of what I really am
This is how you remind me of what I really am

[Chorus]

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong, I've been down
Been to the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream "Are we having fun yet?"

[Outro]

Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet?
Yeah, yeah, are we having fun yet?
(These five words in my head) Yeah, yeah
No, no

Photograph Nickelback Lyric

Produced by Joey Moi
Album All the Right Reasons

[Verse 1]

Look at this photograph
Every time I do, it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red?
And what the hell is on Joey's head?
And this is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneaking out
And this is where I went to school
Most of the time had better things to do
Criminal record says I broke in twice
I must've done it half a dozen times
I wonder if it's too late
Should I go back and try to graduate?
Life's better now than it was back then
If I was them, I wouldn't let me in

[Chorus]

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, God, I, I
Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye
(Goodbye)

[Verse 2]

Remember the old arcade?
Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hangin' out
They say somebody went and burned it down
We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel
Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since God knows when

[Chorus]

[Bridge]

I miss that town
I miss their faces
You can't erase
You can't replace it
I miss it now
I can't believe it
So hard to stay
Too hard to leave it
If I could, I'd relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change

[Chorus]

Every memory of looking out the back door
I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye
Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

[Outro]

Look at this photograph
Every time I do, it makes me laugh
Every time I do, it makes me

Nickelback – Edge Of A Revolution (Main Version)

Edge of a Revolution Lyric

Produced by Nickelback & Chris Baseford
Album No Fixed Address

[Verse 1]

Head high, protest line
"Freedom" scribbled on your sign
Headline, New York Times
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Hey, hey, just obey
Your secret's safe with the NSA
In God we trust or the CIA?
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Yeah, we're standing on the edge of a revolution

[Chorus]

No, we won't give up, we won't go away
'Cause we're not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don't wanna hear another word you say
'Cause we know they're all depending on mass confusion
No, we can't turn back, we can't turn away
'Cause it's time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won't lay down and accept this fate
'Cause we're standing on the edge of a revolution

[Verse 2]

Wall Street, common thief
When they get caught they all go free
A brand new yacht and a finder's fee
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Same shit, different day
Can't keep fed if I can't get paid
We'll all be dead if the shit don't change
Standing on the edge of a revolution
Yeah, we're standing on the edge of a revolution

[Chorus]

No, we won't give up, we won't go away
'Cause we're not about to live in this mass delusion
No, we don't wanna hear another word you say
'Cause we know they're all depending on mass confusion
No, we can't turn back, we can't turn away
'Cause it's time we all relied on the last solution
No, we won't lay down and accept this fate
'Cause we're standing on the edge of a revolution
(We'd all be dead if the shit don't change)

[Bridge]

What do we want? (We want change)
And how're we gonna get there? (Revolution)
What do we want? (We want change)
Standing on the edge of a revolution
What do we want? (We want change)
And how're we gonna get there? (Revolution)
What do we want? (We want change)
Standing on the edge of a revolution

[Bridge]

What do we want? (We want change)
And how're we gonna get there? (Revolution)
What do we want? (We want change)
Standing on the edge of a revolution
What do we want? (We want change)
And how're we gonna get there? (Revolution)
What do we want? (We want change)
Standing on the edge of a revolution
